Registration is Now Closed for our 2021 Winter Semester.

Each semester, Speech Team members make new friends, learn about new speech techniques, and get lots of public speaking practice! Team members work with their coaches to write and prepare new speeches, practice adding tone, inflection, body language, pacing, and other key speaking skills. Students will learn about and perform a variety of speech events, including Original Oratory, Declamation, Storytelling, Informative, and more! The program culminates in two Speaker Showcases where students will perform their speeches for the class! Showcases will be recorded so parents can see their child's progress and growth firsthand!

Lumos Online Speech Team

4:1 Student Teacher Ratio

We do classes of 8 students with 2 instructors per class. We've found that, especially for online coaching, having a small class size is absolutely critical for making sure that every student gets to speak - even our shy or more reluctant students! The 4:1 student teacher ratio also means that our instructors really get to know each child's strengths and weaknesses and provide targeted coaching throughout the week.

Students will practice a variety of different speeches - from argumentative, to informative, to impromptu! The key to building speaking confidence is practice, practice, practice!

Some students need to speak louder, some students need more eye contact, and some need to work on speaking speed. Every student has different strengths and weaknesses!

Private Coaching Built-In

The most effective teaching we do is in one-on-one coaching with students. For each week's assignments, your child will receive individual feedback and coaching. In addition, during our class times, students will get a chance to practice giving speeches with live feedback on their unique strengths and weaknesses!

Especially in public speaking, students have to learn that mistakes are OK, as long as they keep on going and give it their best shot and try again! Our instructors emphasize positive feedback and encouragement.

Our instructors are some of the warmest, kindest people you will ever meet. We are all here because we love the challenge of helping every student find their unique voice.
