Debate Fundamentals

Students will learn the basics of debate, acquiring and developing skills in cross examination, rebuttals, research, and using evidence. The week-long program prepares students for a debate tournament on the final day, debating the week’s selected topic. Debate Fundamentals is designed for students in rising grades 5-9, who will be grouped into small classes based upon student age and experience level.

Students will research, write, and practice their own TedTalk on a subject of their choice. Intended for students trying public speaking for the first time, this program focuses on building presentational confidence in rising 4th-6th graders through instructor feedback and repeated speaking practice in a low-stakes, encouraging environment.

Students will write a persuasive speech on a topic of their choice, developing skills in research, writing, and various public speaking techniques. Instructors will work with each student to develop their unique speaking style, meeting these 7th - 10th graders at their current level of experience and working to improve their presentational capacities for anything from  in-school presentations to competitive speech and debate.

Accel Debate

Accel Debate is our advanced program, designed for students in rising grades 7-10 who are already familiar with the basics of debate and are looking to develop more advanced skill and strategy. Students will work with their instructors on an accelerated timeline to research, write cases, and refine their rebuttal skills on the week’s selected topic in preparation for an end of week tournament.

Public Forum Debate I

This two-week program is designed for students in rising grades 7-10. Students will learn all skills required to compete in Public Forum Debate, the most popular debate format at the high school level. The program concludes with a 2-day debate tournament where students put all their skills to use!
